Zoho implementation

Data migration to Zoho

Quick answer

Data migration moves your customers, vendors, items, open invoices and bills, and opening balances into Zoho. NeX cleans the data first, maps it to the new structure, loads it in test and live runs, and reconciles every balance to your last closed books before go-live, so your first month on Zoho starts from numbers you trust.

Migrating from Tally

Tally is the system most of our Indian clients leave when they move to Zoho. Tally ledgers, groups, stock items and godowns do not map one-to-one to Zoho, so we redesign the chart of accounts first, then map each ledger and item, and reconcile bill-wise outstandings and stock to Tally at cut-off. Our Tally to Zoho Books guide walks through the steps, and Tally vs Zoho Books compares the two.

Our migration method

  1. Scope. Agree what moves: masters, open items, balances, and any history.
  2. Clean. Remove duplicates, inactive records and inconsistent names; fix tax and address details.
  3. Map. Old chart of accounts, tax codes and item codes to the new design.
  4. Test load. Load into a test organisation and reconcile.
  5. Live load. Load at cut-off and reconcile trial balance, receivables, payables and stock.
  6. Sign-off. You approve the reconciliation before users start transacting.

Frequently asked questions

Do we migrate full transaction history?
Usually not. We migrate masters, open items and opening balances at a cut-off date, and keep the old system or an archive for history. Full history costs more and adds risk for little benefit.
What is the best cut-off date?
The start of a financial year or quarter is cleanest, because balances are reviewed then. A month-end also works if the month is closed and reconciled.
Which systems can you migrate from?
Most often Tally: most Indian businesses moving to Zoho come from Tally, and we have run many Tally-to-Zoho migrations. We also migrate from QuickBooks, Xero, spreadsheets and most accounting systems that can export data.
